An open letter to CBS, AG, and RK - written before the POV ceremony today

CBS and AG,

Stop. Just stop. It's become beyond laughable how little integrity you let this show have. At least in the past when there was perceived "tampering" you at least had plausible deniability. This season you lost what little shreds of credibility you had left. After last year and Rachel (on the feeds) stating that all the vets were promised to at least make the jury, this year you find a way to one-up yourself by just giving the returning players a four week pass. It's sad, and at the end of the day unnecessary. It's a good show with a solid concept. You don't have to shape it the way that you do to make it more interesting than it is. Even Dalton Ross (on an EW podcast) talked about how BB is not held to the same ethical standards that Survivor is regarding rigging the game, but this season took it to an unacceptable level. I didn't think anything could surpass the blatant BS of the PB at the tail end of last season, but I was wrong. Even some of the former house guests have spoken up about how blatant the BS is this season. With that being said, Janelle is probably going to get back-doored and sent home this week. Do you think you can avoid rigging the game for a minute and let it take its course?

Everyone knew that there was something off with the "coaches" twist this season. Why? Britney. She might belong on an All-Stars season, but she (by her own admission) isn't very good at the game. So you give the "coaches" a free ride for four weeks, letting them know how each of the new players will play, form alliances (with no consequences), etc.? Why don't you just drop Dr. Will in the game at the final 4 with the POV in hand? It wouldn't look out of place now.

I understand you think that returning players = ratings. Look at your ratings this year, do you still believe that. You're cheating the fans by following the Survivor (we must bring back Boston Rob a thousand times until he wins) formula of rehashing the old instead of allowing new characters to arise. If Survivor had started its new path a season or two earlier we never would have met Russell Hantz, arguably one of the most memorable reality personalities ever. This is no way excuses the laziness of throwing every male member of the Hantz family at us on one show or another. There is a place for returning players, and that place is an All-Stars season. A FULL All-Stars season, not any of this half-assed stuff you've been pulling lately. The FvF version of Survivor worked because it is a team game, it doesn't work for BB.

Lastly, can you at least let us get to know the new players if you must bring back these retreads? There have been twelve new players. There are four returning players. That is a 3:1 advantage (numerically) for the newer players. DR's have probably been about 2:1 in favor of the veterans purely by number. We don't even know the newer players. You know why? You don't let us get to know them. Most of us know the four returning players and while they might add some insight to the game, they are not the only ones that do. Give us something to root for that isn't old.

This season is already tainted and probably will go down as one of the worst BB seasons. It's not because there weren't enough twists and surprises, it's because you won't let the game unfold naturally (and the olympics). Do the right thing. Go back to the drawing board and make BB15 like BB10, a back to the basics season with new players. Leave the returning players (and their relatives) at home.

Robyn,

You do a great job. You should feel insulted that these companies that you have worked with for so long have such little trust in you and your wonderful associates to find interesting people that will make people want to watch. As mentioned above the newer players get a diminished amount of airtime and their could be many jewels in the current crop of hamsters, but we're not allowed to find out. I know that you care about "all of your children" as you have called them on-line and in interviews, but you certainly have some power, push for an all or nothing regarding returning players. You are good enough to find great people, and it's sad that your discoveries are left partially covered by the rubble of returning players.

Watching the live feeds it is entertaining when the players break the rules and talk about production because it gives an insight into the process. I know super-fans don't always make the best house guests, but is there any way you could have a minimum amount of knowledge that someone has to have in order to enter the game. If someone doesn't understand what the POV or HOH stand for they shouldn't be allowed in the front door. Sit them down with two or three seasons and give them a quiz...Fill in the blank ________ grab a life vest. If someone is intentionally not nominated so they can't play in the POV so they can be a replacement nominee the have been __________. I would think it would serve everyone's interests if all house guests had at least a cursory knowledge of how the game works.

I don't pretend to speak for all fans, I disagree with many of them on multiple things, so this only represents my viewpoint, but it very well may be shared (or at least portions of it) by others.

Sincerely,

The Other Guy

xx * Props to you BUT the problem with your letter is that it's biased toward one player in particular and not as a whole. NT
