Let me begin by saying, as an avid Big Brother Fan since season 2 and feed watcher since season 6, I have come to know that everyone has a different strategy going into the house. Sometimes, through either stress or necessity, their original strategies are tweaked or tossed or long forgotten. Everyone who walks through the BB door is a competitor. They are all competing in a game for half a million dollars. There are different types of competitors, athletic/physical competitors, strategic manipulating competitors, social competitors and floating competitors. i.e. Janie was a fierce physical competitor, Dr. Will was a fierce strategic & manipulative competitor and Jordan was fierce in her social game. Lying and backstabbing and bashing of other HG’s are all a part BB. A competitor has to do what a competitor has to do to get further in the game and closer to the money. Even the sweetest of the sweet lies in this game at some time or other! If you are going to play BB, you better check your bible at the door.
Shelly was one of my faves after seeing her pre-show interview. She paired up with one of my other pre-show faves, Cassi. The dynamic duo’s came in the door and Shelly, being an avid BB watcher and feed watcher, was so excited, as I would be if I were in there! The more I watched Shelly, the more I liked her. She had a really good balance of personal and game and knew how to keep them separate, well, to a certain extent. Shelly, not being a physical competitor, was half strategic/manipulating and half social competitor. I thought she did a fabulous job to! She is a people person, team player, motivational speaker and truly cares about people. She never really intended to come in and be everyone’s mom but she said she did like a clean house! She looked out for people, even if she didn’t particularly like the person. One instance was Porsche when she warned her that her skirt might be a little too short or when she told her to keep her ‘lap dance’ classy and reminded her that her dad was probably watching. But she had a game to play. She used a lot of her people skills to draw people out, spill their guts and turn them around with pep talks. She really has a talent for making people feel good about themselves. However, Shelly became blinded by Jeff and Jordan (starstruck?) and wanted to please them and be their friend, so much so that she totally lost her focus of why she was there. Later in the game, she suddenly snapped out of it and remembered she wanted to win for herself and her family! So, one of the first instances that people took issue with was Shelly’s betrayal of the newbies. Well, by his own admission, Evel Dick stated on his Dick at Nite show that he lied (but he really didn’t lie about all of it) and told Shelly that Cassi, Dom, Lawon and Keith were in an alliance and they were after the golden keys. It was pretty plausible because the four of them were constantly together. Dick, as he did with Porsche, drew Shelly over to the vets. (They didn’t show Dick flipping Shelly on the show like they did when he flipped Porsche.) But, just because she flipped doesn’t mean she quit caring about Cassi, she did try to get her to make a deal of her own with them. Anyhoo, the vets wanted Keith gone and Shelly voted with the vets. Of course she wasn’t going to spill that one of the votes was her She isn’t stupid! Watching a youtube of Episode 4, Part 2 @ 4 min, 45 seconds in, Shelly (with a bit of attitude) states in her DR ‘I don’t know who has the votes, the vets or the newbies but I know I need to cover me. I am playing both sides; I gotta get me further in the game’.
As far as Cassi’s eviction, Shelly really didn’t have much to do with that, although she takes a lot of the blame. She felt horrible about it. She thought a lot of Cassi so it wasn’t easy. But, it’s a game! Better the person sitting next to you goes home than yourself, right? Shelly said that she had told Cassi in her goodbye message that she was one of the votes to evict Keith and said it was one of the hardest things she ever had to do. Cassi didn’t see this confession (and neither did we) because she was going off to sequester. BB edited it out. OH, as far as Shelly using her daughter, please. She said my daughter is going to be so sad. So what? It was just a thought that came out. I am sure Josie was sad! Shelly was thinking of her family. I also think this was a turning point in Shelly’s strategy. She knew it was going to be nearly impossible for her to get thru the game without lying and deceiving. She struggled with this. But who pep talked her? Dani and Kalia. Youtube, episode 7, part 1 @ 7min and 49 sec Shelly in the DR, “we make Josie write sentences, ‘I will always tell the truth’, and I feel like I need to be sent to a room to write sentences right now.’ (Admitting she is lying and deceiving).
