Big Brother 28 Update: The Pharaoh’s Curse Claims Melody
Wednesday’s Big Brother answered a question: what happens when a doomed houseguest gets one hour to save herself? Crying, bargaining, and property damage.
Devens nominated Drew and Melody, targeting Melody because her partnership with Drew was dangerous. This is Big Brother language for “you two keep cuddling near strategic conversations.” Dee preferred Drew gone, proving the veterans agreed on almost everything except which player should remain useful.
The veto required players to drag a mummy through an obstacle course while avoiding trip wires. Devens collected 22 strikes, Dee 21, and Drew only 15. Drew won, saved himself, and left Devens to nominate Taylor.
Then the Pharaoh’s Curse announced that the eviction would occur in one hour. Melody and Taylor had 60 minutes to campaign, process their mortality, and apparently locate the correct pottery. Instead of casting votes, Dee and Drew broke artifacts belonging to the nominee they wanted evicted. Drew broke Taylor’s. Dee broke Melody’s. Devens broke the tie by destroying Melody’s second artifact, sending her to jury without Julie, an audience, or enough time to explain whatever she and Drew had been doing all summer.
The feeds have since advanced to Final Four. Taylor won HOH, and Drew won the final veto, giving him the sole power to choose whether Dee or Devens joins him and Taylor in the Final Three. His decision remains unspoken, but Wednesday night felt less like campaigning than a wake where the guest of honor had not received confirmation.
Dee and Drew cried in their beds while Devens hovered in the Have-Not doorway, asking how he was supposed to comfort both of them. Drew wished he had won HOH. Dee wished for the spirit of Jeff Probst to enter her dreams. She even asked Drew whether he had considered not using the veto, a request roughly equivalent to asking someone to surrender oxygen because friendship has been meaningful.
Drew and Dee wondered why they were crying while Devens remained dry-eyed. Dee asked whether something was wrong with him or them. Drew selected “us,” demonstrating his strongest read of the season.
They remembered sharing the room for 80 days, joked that they had once been eager to evict Chuk, and imagined their mothers watching them unravel. Dee worried her father would see her crying on the feeds. Drew admitted he used to cry on every birthday because he did not want to age. Emotional stability had officially left before any houseguest did.
Dee said they could reunite at an Airbnb, although Devens could not attend. Drew suggested he send a Cameo. Dee retrieved tissues and noted they should have kept a box there all season for Angela.
Eventually, Drew moved his belongings out of Melody’s pod and slept beside Dee. She told him she loved him. Devens slept alone in the Have-Not room while Dee continued sniffling under her blanket.
Tonight, Drew must turn an alliance into a casualty. The Pharaoh’s Curse is over, but one final artifact remains: a friendship he has to break himself.
