Big Brother Season 28: The Vets Finally Showed Us Who Really Runs This House on Eviction Night
Author: Peter
Buckle up, because Thursday was an exciting night for Big Brother, and we got to see a crazy vote flip live on TV.
It all started with the Block Buster puzzle between Drew, Melody, and Lyric. It was a Paw Patrol-branded dino build, because apparently even reality TV has corporate sponsorship now. Lyric raced through the first layer of the puzzle like a woman possessed, but Drew clutched the second layer just ahead of her to snag safety.
Bye bye block, hello smug victory lap.
That left Melody and Lyric as the final two, and then it got juicy. Haley with Kamu and Chuck, basically her Red Corner crew, were fully, completely, one hundred percent convinced Melody was walking out that door.
They weren’t exactly wrong about the numbers being close. But they were extremely wrong about who was actually pulling the strings.
Behind the scenes, Dee and Devens had quietly orchestrated a full coup. Dee decided Lyric, who was always good at competition, was the bigger long-term danger, and spent the day rallying votes one by one.
First, they went to Angela, who, fun fact, doesn’t like being bossed around by Haley and to make that very clear, she decided to flip to the other side. Then, it was Barrett, then Mallory through Barret, then Taylor through Devens.
They lied to basically everyone who wasn’t in on it, including straight-up promising Mallory they’d keep Melody safe “in all scenarios” while planning to do whatever they wanted anyway.
Mallory cried about the lying, but she voted with them anyway.
Reality TV, baby.
When the votes finally came in, it was 8-3 with Lyric evicted. Haley’s face looked like she’d seen a ghost. This marks the first time all season the sitting HOH’s plan got completely blown up by their house.
And get this, it’s also the fourth week straight where the renom, not the original nominee, has gone home. At this point, being the backup nominee should just come with a warning label.
Lyric handled her exit like a pro, telling Julie she wasn’t shocked given her comp wins. She also defended her earlier betrayals with a very matter-of-fact “you have to play for yourself.”
Icon behavior really.
But the night wasn’t done. We went straight into the fight for HOH and it all came down to Kamu, who confidently said he could go all night versus LaTrice who calmly clapped back with “you’re going to challenge an old lady like this?”
And then, at 58 years old, LaLa outlasted a professional MMA fighter to become the new HOH, and the oldest woman to ever win the Wall. I stood up and cheered from my couch, genuinely.
Four weeks of Red Corner running this house, and it took one grandma with iron grip strength to finally shake things up. Let’s see what she does with it.
