JokersUpdates had a very special opportunity to talk with Lawon aka Lawonderful or Mr. Handsomefied! Lawon took the time to clarify some of his actions in the Big Brother house and answered some of Jokers members questions. We are grateful he took the time and look forward to seeing him at the finale.
JokersUpdates.com: I enjoyed watching you on the live feeds and on the broadcast shows, but sometimes you did seem to be dazed and confused. Was the experience overwhelming for you? Can you tell us how it felt to be in the BB house with strangers and "stars" of the show?
Lawon: LOL.....The first 2 weeks I was on slop due to competitions so if I seemed a little daze...Yes. Not having food for that long and being in a mental game as intense as "Big Brother", it was very overwhelming at first.
As the weeks passed I became very comfortable with my housemates and started to play the game "low key".
I knew going into the game that I would be with strangers and I must say I am a people person, so I intended to get to know each and every houseguest to figure out their strategy (which I did accomplish) the first week. When the veterans walked in the house I was actually happy because I had watched each one's season so it was actually like now I can get to know them on a personal level and game level.
JokersUpdates.com: Of the houseguests that returned from past seasons, who was your favorite and why? Of the newbies that came into the house, who did you like the most & who did you bond with the most & why? Often, the person you bond with is not necessarily the one you like the most, so let us know what you were thinking and feeling, if you can!
Lawon: I have to say my love for Dani (Danielle) is so huge she is a sweet girl who will be my new pretty pretty for life. She has a good heart and we got to know each other on a personal level sharing stories. I also had a connection with Jeff and Jordan. Jeff because he is from the Midwest like myself and he was like one of my boys from home. Jordan she was like my little sister who would love to hear of my life stories and would love to see me dance. All in all I have to say I will be in contact with all of the house guest because I was able to get to know each one of them on a personal level which I think sometimes confused them of how I was playing the game.
They would be so interested in me and that would sidetrack them sometime on whether to talk game with me or not. Which is funny to me because that was part of my game plan form the beginning for the houseguest to be sidetrack and not know which side I was on at times. Last but not least I gained a little brother, Dominic, which if I was not on the show I would have never met him and the love I have for him is like he was my blood. So with this once in a lifetime experience and I am much grateful.
JokersUpdates.com: There was and is a lot of speculation about what you actually do for a living in the real world, everything from being unemployed to being an attorney running an entertainment firm. Would you please tell us what you really do for a living?
Lawon: I have to say I know that was big speculation due to the fact of who I work for, which was very hard to not be able to talk about due to contract issues and protection of the company. All I can divulge is that I do work in the entertainment business as a Coordinator for TV Legal Records. I deal with contracts for different projects for the studio I work for.
I also started my own company last year, which is ExumOut! Entertainment, Inc.. I formed it due to the fact that I will be 40 this year and I have a list (Bucket list) of goals that I want to do. Being selected to be on Big Brother was one and forming my own business was another. You can support my soon to be business ventures, on my website www.handsomfied.com which will be up in a couple of weeks.
JokersUpdates.com: I saw you talk favorably about Jeff, very favorably, lol, did you have time to get to know him & understand his sense of humor or did you just like him as eye-candy?
Lawon: As I stated Jeff is just a great guy. I mean of course he is eye candy but look beyond that he was a great person to talk to and we just clicked as friends. I understood his sense of humor due to the fact that I know people like Jeff and he was just hilarious and "HandsomFied".
JokersUpdates.com: Jameisasnake on Jokers asks: At times it seemed like you weren't really invested in staying in the BB house and playing the Big Brother game. Did you get tired of all of it or were we, the viewers, misreading you?
Lawon: I have to say that fans have to remember this is TV and when I look at some of the past shows as soon as I stepped foot across the Big Brother stage I stared playing the game. Many things you may not seen of me (not shown on the show or live feeds) might have led you to think I was not in the game. From day 1 I had an alliance with Dominic who is my little brother for life. Nobody saw that but Yes we had a pact that no matter what, we was going to fight to the end and that was never shown. So I guess that is what mislead you....Not enough TV time...LOL. It is what it is but I really feel the viewers misread me. It was just a game and I enjoyed every second of it!
JokersUpdates.com: Scrappy asks: did you really think you would get a special power when you got evicted or did you just want to go out in a memorable way and make Big Brother history?
Lawon: No, when we were told watch who you may evict because they will have a chance to get back in the game, the first thing that crossed my mind was this is a season to expect the unexpected so of course..... I am thinking of past seasons...... There may be a a Golden HOH, Diamond veto (that I may be able to use at any time) just something that will make it special for whomever is evicted to comeback into the house. So that is where my thinking of special powers came from.
I also feel that I was just so excited that my partner Kalia won the first HOH out of the newbies and from day 1 I had her back. just over-analyzed and opened my mouth to be put up as a "Pawn". I know I said evicted but mentally I meant a "Pawn". When you are actually in the game your mind is racing like a Nascar race car driver.
I just know my mistake was just opening my mouth when I should have just stayed quiet and remain low key. I do not have any regrets because I know it was a game. I also know that it purely was not my fault because Kalia did not have to put me up at all but she made that choice to better herself in the game. I still have love for her because we established a relationship outside of game play that I know you all did not see and with that; No regrets.
JokersUpdates.com: BadHabit on Jokers asks: Your decision to get yourself nominated for an eviction; was it just a classy way to DOR because you were concerned about what your friends and family might be seeing on the live feeds or on the show?
Lawon: I have never been one to care what anyone thinks or says about me. I think that comes form my upbringing and confidence I have in myself. Even on live feeds I feel you do not see everything, just enough to keep you coming back. I know I represented who I am and their were no mirrors (for me). Hopefully in the future, you will continue to watch and see what transforms of my experience on the show so you can really get to see and know Lawon "HandsomFied". (big smile)
JokersUpdates.com: BayouOwl on Jokers asks: Was there anything about the BB house that you thought was going to be very difficult but turned out to be easy, such as being on slop or liking other houseguests or just anything you thought might be difficult to deal with?
Lawon: I have to admit......being on slop was not what I expected. It actually was not as bad as I thought it would be and not only that, I lost 15 pounds in all the right places being on it. So, GO Slop!!!!!.....I will tell you this; it is so easy to play the game at home and say what you would and would not do in the game. Until you actually are in the Big Brother house playing the game, a person can only imagine. It was life changing for me and I would do it again in a heartbeat.
JokersUpdates.com: SCDrMom on Jokers asks: You are hysterically funny and a hard guy NOT to adore and wonderful to watch, do you think you will do more acting or reality shows or hosting?
Lawon: OMG!!!!! Thank You so much:)...I would love to do hosting on Red Carpet events, I am looking at starting my own clothing line *HandsomFied*, this experience has opened my eyes to all type of possibilities that I can do, so you have not seen the last of me. I know I keep saying that but I am serious. You can do anything in life if you put your mind to it. Life is too short. Like I say "Some people Got IT and some people don't...Now Go get it!!!!!..(smile)
JokersUpdates.com: Dree on Jokers asks: Did you watch Big Brother before you came on the show, were you a fan of the show and did you know what to expect?
Lawon: I watched Big Brother since season 1. Through the years I know it changed so then I stopped watching for a while. I picked back up on Season 6 so, I have always been a fan of Big Brother and I hope you all continue to be a fan as well.
JokersUpdates.com: Mrs_Roper on Jokers asks: Would you ever consider doing Big Brother again?
Lawon: I would do Big Brother again in a New York minute if that still exist. It was a great experience for me.
JokersUpdates.com: Early in the game, Kalia demonstrated some prejudice towards you in that "spike lee school daze inferior to me" way and we never saw it on the feeds but you picked up on it and spoke to her about it. Would you like to share your feelings about what happened and how you turned that potentially volatile situation into a positive for both of you? I would also like to ask you how you felt about what some saw as incredibly ignorant and repeated displays of racism from Shelly and how you have arrived at a place of understanding and forgiveness that allowed you to continue to treat her with deference and respect? How did you do that?
Lawon: As I knew going into the game......it is just that a game. I would probably like some people better because everybody is different. We all had different personalities so I was expecting the unexpected anyway. I am the type of person who always try to be a positive ray of light no matter what type of situation it is. So the relationship between Kalia and I that you saw on TV you have to separate. Game wise I can see why she may not like me but I know personally outside the house she is my sweetie and that at the end of the day she has to play the game. She did that by making sure I was evicted so she did her thing.
As far as Shelley, she is a sweet woman who I got to know as well. Each day I kept in my mind this is just a game do not take this personal and that is what kept me going on a daily basis. I woke up with a smile and kept it moving.
JokersUpdates.com: Of the Final 3, who would you like to see win it all and why & who would you like to see win 2nd place and finally, lol, who would you like to see win America's Choice?
Lawon: Of course I would love to see a newbie win. I mean we had the numbers from the beginning and if we would have stuck together from day one we would have ROCKED the house. I do not want to say who I think should win. I will keep that to myself.
JokersUpdates.com: One night in the Big Brother house, you told Jordan a very inspiring story about how you came out to your Grandmother, would you like to share the story again for Jokers readers and let us know how it made you feel? Perhaps your story could give hope to some of the young Americans that are struggling with the same issue in their own families....
Lawon: The conversation I had with Jordan.....if I can help someone know that no matter what...You are You and embrace that. We all have flaws and we all are people, no matter your sexual orientation and what have you.
If I can be a voice for people who have even thought that it is so terrible to be themselves or was just feeling like because they are gay they are not loved or cannot talk to anyone, I am here and I understand. Please feel free to reach out to me because I know it is hard.
I would love to work with the Trevor project and GLAAD to show that you can be and do whatever you want to regardless of your sexuality. That is only a little percent of who a person is and if I stood out as a positive example for the gay community then I did myself justice. I only wanted to let Jordan know that I am a person, just like anyone else and my sexuality is a small fraction of who I am. I never thought that me being me would have such an impact on people but being off the show I see that it did
I would like to say to all of my fans: Thank you from the bottom of my heart for accepting me as a Big Brother houseguest and getting to know me this Summer. The experience I have had with the fans and the out-pour of love you all have shown me is priceless. I will etch your admiration in my heart forever. Even though you only saw a little Lawonderful and Handsomfideness, when you could, I will make sure that you will continue to get to know me and can just see me be ME.
Hugs, High Fives and Kisses!!!!
